People always ask me, “What are the ‘NEW fashion rules,’” to which I reply, “whatever you want!” I think that every woman should realize some of the best and biggest style icons tend to make their own rules. If you’re someone who wants to get out of your rut, or trying to enhance your style, what I can provide is a good launching pad to get you started!

The one thing I always remember comes from my personal icon, Coco Chanel. She said, “Fashion changes, but style endures.” What this means is that it doesn’t matter what’s “in” or “out,” but rather how you carry or express yourself through your style. What’s most important when getting dressed is how these items make you feel. If you don’t feel good about it, others will notice. Having a certain style is just another way to express who you are. Think of it as an artistic outlet. So many people are afraid to stand out, but the way I see it, if you feel confident and beautiful, GO FOR IT! At the end of the day, all that matters is how you feel.

Another thing to remember is to break away from your mom’s “fashion do’s and don’ts!” A lot has change in fashion and style  in that almost anything is acceptable. And if you aren’t yet ready to mix gold and silver jewelry or wear white after Labor Day, it’s okay! Start off by bending some of those rules. Wear pink in winter, rather than just spring and summer; mix dressy with a more casual piece for an everyday look. Have something in your closet that you’ve only worn a handful of times? Bring it out! Pair that fancy skirt with a casual tee and statement necklace. Or wear that fabulous black blazer with distressed jeans and cute sneakers. So many ways to change up your wardrobe with the things you already have. You just have to be willing to go outside your style box. On a drab day, wear a pop of color for an instant mood booster. Or, on a day where you don’t feel your best, wear your favorite piece, necklace, shoes, or scarf. It’s truly amazing how wearing something that you love can instantly change your outlook on your day.

Lastly, the most important of all, never forget that your best accessory is your smile and your confidence. These two things will complete any look before you head out for your day! Since I started out with a quote from Miss Chanel herself, I’ll leave you with another one of her mottos, “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself!”
